Officials missed Kessie’s disallowed goal and the Man Utd midfielder should have seen red

Referee Slavko Vinčić made a couple of serious mistakes during AC Milan’s 1-1 draw against Manchester United on Thursday night, according to a report.

Amad Diallo scored United’s first goal with a return header, but Simon Kjaer provided some heroics in the 92nd minute to go home for a corner and secure a crucial away goal.

Milan had the ball in the net in the 11th minute when Kessie took a touch from a throw-in and threw the ball into the far corner as he sat well for him just inside the box. However, VAR decided to step in for handball, even though the replay made it look like a questionable call.

The Gazzetta dello Sport (via Football Italy) described Kessie’s disallowed goal as ‘a mystery’ because there were no clear images showing the Ivorian touching the ball with his arm anywhere. The document adds that VAR may have seen a different replay, but the system is only designed to intervene in the event of a “clear and obvious error”, which did not appear to be there.

Vinčić should also have given United midfielder Scott McTominay his marching orders for a second yellow card when he intentionally fouled Rade Krunic on the edge of the box by dragging him down, having already received a yellow card.

The referee was rated 5/10 by La Gazzetta dello Sport and Tuttosport and 6/10 by Corriere dello Sport, as reported on Football Italia.
