Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer complained about his team’s slow play and the fact that they stopped playing at the end of the draw with AC Milan.
Coach Stefano Pioli had to make a virtue out of necessity like Milan were without Theo Hernandez, Ismael Bennacer, Hakan Calhanoglu, Ante Rebic, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Alessio Romagnoli and Mario Mandzukic for the match, which saw the likes of Rade Krunic , Soualiho Meite, Diogo Dalot and Brahim Diaz get the nod.
It looked like the night’s only goal would eventually come through young winger Amad Diallo as his header caught Fikayo Tomori and Gianluigi Donnarumma in No Man’s Land.
The excellent Simon Kjaer, however, scored with a header from a corner kick in the second minute of added time, giving Milan a well-deserved draw but also a crucial away goal in view of next week’s return.
Solskjaer spoke at the press conference after the game and reflected on a frustrating evening for his team.
“We knew that to win we had to score. Their draw complicates things. Scoring goals one minute from the end is always complicated. We will see what happens next week at San Siro, where we will play the match, ”he said (via MilanNews).
“Diallo’s goal was very good, with the right timing. Kjaer’s gate was built nicely by them, with a block that allowed him to head out. This goal forces us to score at San Siro and win the game. We will have to be more bad. We were slow, they played well and aggressively. We were slow in the possession phase.
“We have never played fast, I am disappointed with that. We should recover some players and see what it will be like. Martial? We have to evaluate it. I hope to recover Rashford for the match against Milan. We need him while Cavani will not be there. We have the chance to go through, we have to score a goal or two to change the tide of qualification. “
